History and Team

Every wine tells a story - it changes over time, just as we do. Our winery and our Heuriger stand for decades of tradition and the tireless pursuit of quality.

The winery

In 1981, senior chef Josef Glatt laid the foundation stone for our winery when he planted the first Grüner Veltliner vineyard in the “Sauberg”. Over the years, we expanded our vineyards to include the Rivaner and Blauer Portugieser varieties. Today, we cultivate an area of ​​4.9 hectares and are constantly expanding our range.

In 2018, we planned the new construction of the wine hall and wine shop at Am Wasweg, which was completed in 2019. Since then, our wines have been produced and stored using the latest cellar technology. Our wines can be purchased outside of opening hours in a modern, contemporary shop on a sales area of ​​70 m².

The Heuriger

Our Heuriger originated from a former dairy cooperative building that existed from 1900 to 1983. In 1985 we acquired the building and converted it into a Heuriger, which opened its doors in January 1990. Due to high demand, we expanded the Heuriger in 2003, and today it has space for 170 people in the building and 150 people in the garden. The garden is equipped with play equipment for our younger guests.

Milestones

Our team is an essential part of our history. Every family member has helped build the company and plays an important role in the continued development of our business.

  • Karl Glatt – winemaker and wine tavern owner. He runs his parents’ business with passion and expertise.

  • Gabriele Glatt – Accounting. She is responsible for finances and payroll and assisted with the construction of the wine hall.

  • Katharina Glatt – Marketing & Sales. She takes care of product design and sales matters.

    • Favorite wine: Sorella – Rosé Frizzante
    • Favorite food: Raw sliced ​​bread with horseradish
  • Lisa Glatt – Marketing & Communication. She is responsible for the company’s online and offline presence.

The region

Our winery is located in Austria's largest wine-growing region - the Weinviertel. Our vineyards are in the southern Weinviertel, which can be geographically assigned to the Korneuburg Basin. The vineyards on the southeastern slopes of the Schliefberg range offer optimal conditions for intensive sugar formation and a distinctive bouquet.

The soils consist of weathered sandstone with a high lime content, partially covered with loess and clay. Annual greening increases the natural fertility of the soil.
