About our winery
Our winery is located in the southern Weinviertel in Matzen, about 30 km northeast of Vienna. The tradition of our business dates back to the 1930s of the last century. After graduating in agriculture from the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna, I, Günter Wenzl, took over my parents' business in 1998. Our vines thrive on over 22 hectares of predominantly loess soils, and we grow a manageable number of varieties typical of the region.
We produce fruity and mild red wines in the warm and dry southern locations. The cooler and better watered locations on the edge of the Matzner Forest produce aromatic, sparkling white wines. Our natural production does not use herbicides or insecticides. Through moderate pruning, leaf work and grape thinning, we ensure optimal grape quality, which we process into varietal, high-quality wines using the latest cellar technology.
Our grape varieties
The main white wine variety is Grüner Veltliner, while Zweigelt dominates the red wine. Other white wine varieties include Rheinriesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Weißburgunder and Gelber Muskateller. In the red wine range we also offer Blaufränkisch, Pinot Noir, Blauer Portugieser and Roesler.
For me it is important that my wines reflect both the typicality of the location and the varietal characteristics of the individual grape varieties. Numerous awards, including inclusion in the Austrian Wine Salon, confirm the excellent quality of our wines.
Location & Climate
The Weinviertel hill country, divided into four sub-areas, also includes the Matzen hill country. This area is located in the dry part of Lower Austria and already has echoes of the Pannonian climate. The wine-growing town of Matzen is picturesquely situated in a valley of the Wagram, which separates the Weinviertel hill country from the Marchfeld. The extensive south-facing slopes not only characterize the townscape, but together with the favorable loess soils and the climate tempered by the large forest area, they offer the ideal conditions for our outstanding wines. Our red wine in particular has established itself as an Austrian top product.

Arrival by car:

Coming from Vienna:
- Take the B8 towards Deutsch-Wagram.
- In Deutsch-Wagram, turn left at the third traffic light into Bockfließer Straße.
- In Bockfließ turn right at the main road and continue on Auersthaler Straße to Reyersdorf.
- There, at the first opportunity, turn left towards Matzen and then immediately right again (Matzen is signposted).
- In Matzen, take the second exit at the roundabout towards the main road.

Arrival by train:
- Take the S1 express train or the regional train to Gänserndorf.
- From Gänserndorf take the connecting train towards Groß-Schweinbarth to Matzen.
- From there it is only a 5-minute leisurely walk.
